Building A Network For BMX CulturE
I started this site as a response to seeing our BMX culture being discussed by outsiders who had limited and shallow understandings of who we are because they had limited and shallow options from where to learn about us.
Aside from high view count YouTube videos, celebrity social media accounts, and the main media sites devoted to sharing BMX (yet restricted by the reality of their overhead, sponsors, and audience), I believe that BMX culture, in its more artistic and complex forms, is relatively hidden to both outsiders as well as many of our own people.
This site is only one piece of that multifaceted and complex culture and though it has begun to find a footing amongst those looking to understand the depth of BMX culture, it certainly cannot--and should not--claim to be “the other” cultural website on the web. In truth, there are a multitude of sites, crews, and videographers devoted to a similar mission as this one: to document and share some meaningful, artistic, thoughtful, and authentic part of BMX culture outside of the mainstream representations of it.
This page is meant to help build a network between those outlets in order to encourage community in BMX as well as to allow for the spread of various ideas and perspectives that are not often heard. It is my hope that this page can serve as either a starting point or as a stop over point for those on a journey to understand this thing we call the freestyle BMX lifestyle.
An important note: This page should continue to grow and I rely on you readers to let me know what other sites should be connected here. Please submit any ideas below.
Happy trails,
Mike
